One of the best parts of traveling is discovering small restaurants that capture the feeling of a place. During our time exploring Corfu Town, we stopped for lunch at Aegli Restaurant, a charming spot tucked along one of the narrow pedestrian streets lined with cafés and shops.
From the moment we sat down under the shaded awnings, it felt like exactly the kind of relaxed Mediterranean lunch we were hoping for.
Tables stretched down the lively street, the afternoon sun filtered through the canopy above us, and the sound of conversations and clinking glasses filled the air.
It’s the kind of place where you sit down for lunch and suddenly realize you’ve been there for two hours without noticing.
Starting with Something Local
Like many meals in Greece, lunch started simply — and perfectly.
Fresh bread arrived first, served with golden olive oil and balsamic vinegar, alongside a few olives. It’s a small thing, but when the ingredients are this good, it sets the tone for the whole meal.
We paired it with Mythos beer, one of the most recognizable Greek beers and the perfect refreshment for a warm afternoon in Corfu.
The Classic Greek Salad
No meal in Greece feels complete without a Greek salad, and this one did not disappoint.
Large chunks of fresh tomatoes, crisp peppers, onions, cucumbers, olives, and thick slices of creamy feta were topped with olive oil and herbs. It was simple, fresh, and exactly what you want on a warm Mediterranean afternoon.
Sometimes the simplest dishes are the most memorable when the ingredients are this fresh.
Traditional Greek Favorites
For our main dishes, we went with a couple of classic Greek favorites.
One of the standout plates was Spinach Feta pie with homemade pie dough, a flaky pastry filled with spinach and feta cheese. The golden crust was crisp and buttery, while the filling was rich, savory, and full of flavor.
Another dish was Saganaki from kefalotyri cheese, a fried Greek cheese that arrives at the table golden and crispy on the outside while warm and soft inside. A squeeze of lemon over the top brings everything together and adds the perfect balance.
Both dishes were simple, comforting, and deeply satisfying.
The Atmosphere
Part of what made the meal special wasn’t just the food — it was the atmosphere.
Aegli sits right along one of Corfu Town’s lively pedestrian streets, so while we ate we could watch locals and travelers wander past, browse nearby shops, and stop for coffee or wine at neighboring cafés.
It’s the kind of place where the meal becomes part of the experience of the city itself.
Final Thoughts
If you find yourself exploring Corfu Town, Aegli is a wonderful place to stop for a relaxed lunch.
The food is classic Greek, the atmosphere is lively but comfortable, and the setting captures the charm of Corfu’s old town perfectly.
Sometimes the best travel memories aren’t the big attractions — they’re the simple moments like sitting under a shaded café awning, sharing good food, and watching the world go by.
And this lunch at Aegli was exactly that.
